JPMorgan Chase/Second Year Experience (SYE) Mini-Grant

The JPMorgan Chase / Second Year Experience (SYE) Mini-Grants are designed to support Morgan State University’s Second Year Experience Program by enhancing course curricula with meaningful experiential learning opportunities. These grants provide faculty with funding to integrate hands-on, real-world experiences into courses that enroll second-year students.

The purpose of the SYE Mini-Grant is to strengthen a course by incorporating an experiential learning component that supports student success and career readiness. Examples of eligible enhancements include, but are not limited to, offering extra credit for Campus-to-Career field trips, embedding service-learning projects into coursework, engaging students in community-based volunteer activities aligned with course objectives, or providing appropriate job-shadowing opportunities that help students explore realistic career pathways within their major.

Funded projects are expected to align with Morgan State University’s Strategic Plan, particularly Goal 1 (Enhancing Student Success and Well-Being) and Goal 5 (Accelerating Global Education Initiatives). Through these initiatives, the SYE Mini-Grant seeks to better prepare students for the workforce, increase exposure to diverse career options, strengthen engagement with the Second Year Experience Program, and improve second-to-third-year student retention.

Each award is $5,000, and not all proposals will be funded. Grants are awarded each semester to faculty who include an experiential learning component in a course offered during the same semester as the award. Second-year students must be enrolled in the course. Preference may be given to new applicants, although previous recipients are eligible to apply. Awardees are required to submit a brief summary report outlining project outcomes within one month of project completion.

Completed applications must include all required sections and be submitted via email to Dr. Brenda James at Brenda.James@morgan.edu with a copy to Ms. Janee Harvey at Janee.Harvey@morgan.edu by Wednesday, February 25, 2026, for projects implemented during Spring 2026. Late submissions will not be considered. Grant award notifications will be sent by March 4, 2026.
