Student Welcome Letter

Dear Student,

The staff of the Morgan State University Memorial Chapel would like to take a moment to welcome you to the University! We look forward to an enriching experience with you during your stay at Morgan, and invite you to visit the Chapel and partake of the many activities we have to offer. The Chapel serves students of all cultures, and strives to provide activities which are inclusive of all religious beliefs.

To begin, our Christian Sunday worship service begins at 11:00 a. m. and is open to students, faculty/staff, and the neighboring community. We encourage you to attend; the services help to keep you spiritually strengthened and refreshed while away from home. Also, the Chapel invites the campus Muslim students to attend Jummah Prayer every Friday from 1:00 p. m. to 2:00 p. m. Imam Derrick Amin looks forward to meeting you.

In addition to our worship services, the Chapel holds bible studies, outreaches, and a number of other activities. Participation in the bible studies (or other events sponsored by the Chaplains) is a great way to meet friends while strengthening your religious journey. Also, the University Chapel's Episcopal/Anglican Ministry hosts "Mid Day Meditation," co-hosted by Rev. Keels and Rev. Neva Brown. This special activity is from 12:00 p. m. - 1:00 p. m. every Wednesday. Come and receive spiritual nourishment for one hour on Wednesdays; a light lunch is also provided at no cost to you. Also, on Tuesday evenings, Travian Savage hosts a Young Life Ministry Weekly Fellowship, which is a powerful event. Also, on Thursday evenings, the Apostolic Faith Ministry hosts a bible study; Dr. Oludare Owolabi would love to have you attend. In addition, our Navigators Ministry hosts campus outreaches several times a year; come and meet Dr. Jacqueline Holland, to see what the Navigators are all about! Our newest Chaplain of the Intervarsity Ministry, Ms. Alexis Garrett, brings some new ideas to the University Memorial Chapel! We invite you to come to one of her ministry outreaches or planned events this year.

Do you feel the need to serve your community? We invite you to partner with Mr. Reggie Price of the University Chapel's Lutheran Campus Ministries. Deacon Price oversees student volunteers who visit communities and shelters to feed and clothe the city's residents who are in need. New volunteers are always welcome! Are you gifted with singing, playing musical instruments, and/or praise dancing abilities? If so, we invite you to join the Chapel's Gospel Ensemble, or Dancers of Praise. These two groups perform during the Chapel's Sunday services, and at other special occasions on and off the campus.

In closing, are you curious about any of these activities and events at the Chapel? If so, we invite you to come and visit the Chapel at any time for a personal tour, and to meet the staff. We look forward to meeting you, and encourage you to continue your spiritual journey while attending Morgan State University. We are located at the south end of the campus, just past the Earl S. Richardson Library. There is something for you here at the Chapel! Come and visit, and be blessed! Our call: "Don't Pray in Desperation - LIVE in Expectation!"

Sincerely,

Rev. Dr. Bernard Keels, Dean bernard.keels@morgan.edu
