Graduate Student Insurance Enrollment

Graduate students who wish to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan must complete the enrollment process through the Gallagher Student Health Portal. Graduate students are not automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. If you wish to obtain coverage through SHIP, you must enroll and pay for coverage directly through the Gallagher Student Health Portal. Insurance premiums cannot be charged to your Morgan State University student account.

Step 1: Access the Gallagher Student Health Portal

Visit the Gallagher Student Health Portal and select Morgan State University. Log in using your Morgan State University credentials.

Step 2: Begin the Enrollment Process

From the Gallagher homepage, select the option to Enroll in Student Health Insurance and review the available coverage options.

Step 3: Select Your Coverage

Choose the coverage level that best meets your needs:

• Student Only
• Student + Spouse
• Student + Child(ren)
• Student + Family

Please review the premium amounts carefully before proceeding.

Step 4: Complete the Enrollment Form

Provide all required information, including:

• Student information
• Contact information
• Dependent information (if applicable)
• Any additional information required for enrollment

Ensure all information is accurate before submitting your enrollment request.

Step 5: Submit Payment

Graduate students are responsible for paying the insurance premium directly through the Gallagher Student Health Portal. Health insurance premiums for voluntary enrollment are not billed to your Morgan State University student account.

Step 6: Save Your Confirmation

After completing enrollment and payment, save a copy of your confirmation for your records. You will also receive confirmation from Gallagher once your enrollment has been successfully processed.

Do I have to enroll in SHIP as a Graduate student?

No. Enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is voluntary for Graduate students. Students who would like coverage through SHIP must actively enroll through the Gallagher Student Health Portal during the applicable enrollment period.

Can I enroll if I already have health insurance?

Yes. Graduate students may choose to enroll in SHIP even if they already have health insurance coverage. Students should carefully review their current coverage and the SHIP benefits to determine which option best meets their healthcare needs.

Can I enroll after the deadline?

Enrollment is generally limited to the published enrollment period for each semester. Students who miss the enrollment deadline may only be eligible to enroll if they experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE), such as loss of health insurance coverage, marriage, birth or adoption of a child, or another eligible event. Supporting documentation must be submitted within 30 days of the qualifying event.

Can I enroll my spouse or children?

Yes. Eligible dependents, including spouses and children, may be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan for an additional premium. Dependent coverage must be selected during the enrollment process and all required dependent information must be provided at the time of enrollment.

When will my coverage become active?

Coverage becomes effective on the plan's designated coverage start date, provided enrollment and payment requirements have been completed during the published enrollment period. Students should review the semester coverage dates listed on this page for specific effective and termination dates. Coverage approval letters issued after enrollment will also indicate the dates on which coverage becomes active and when it terminates.

Can the insurance charge be added to my student account?

No. Health insurance premiums for voluntary enrollment are not billed to a student's Morgan State University account. Students are responsible for paying the insurance premium directly through the Gallagher Student Health Portal during the enrollment process.

How do I pay for coverage?

Payment must be made directly through the Gallagher Student Health Portal at the time of enrollment. Students should follow the payment instructions provided within the portal and retain their enrollment confirmation and payment receipt for their records.
