Student Health Insurance Information & Enrollment

Morgan State University offers a comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) through UnitedHealthcare to help students access healthcare services while enrolled at the University. SHIP provides nationwide coverage for medical care, mental health services, hospital care, emergency services, prescription medications, preventive care, and other healthcare needs, with some coverage available internationally.

Full-time undergraduate students (registered for 12 or more credit hours) who do not submit an approved waiver are automatically enrolled in SHIP. Graduate students and part-time undergraduate students may voluntarily enroll in coverage during the annual enrollment period.

Enrollment & Coverage Dates

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) enrollment and coverage periods vary by semester. Students enrolling in SHIP, adding dependents, or submitting a waiver should review the applicable deadlines below. Students who miss the enrollment or waiver deadlines may be required to wait until the next enrollment period unless they experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

Qualifying Life Event (QLE) Enrollment

Students who experience a qualifying life event, such as the loss of health insurance coverage, marriage, birth of a child, divorce, or other eligible event, may be able to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) outside of the standard enrollment period.

QLE enrollment requests must be submitted within 30 days of the qualifying event. Supporting documentation verifying the event is required and must be uploaded through the enrollment portal at the time of submission.
