Ashraf Ahmed is a Research Professor of the Institute for Urban Research at Morgan State University. He also served the Institute as a Statistician-Demographer for the period 1993 to 1995. He received both his B.A. (Honors) and M.A. in Statistics from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh and also earned an M.A. in Demography in 1978 and Ph.D. in Sociology in 1982 with major in applied statistics and demography from the University of Chicago. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow of Johns Hopkins University, 1993-1994. He worked as a Professor at the Institute of Statistical Research and Training at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. During his professional career, seven students received doctoral degree under his joint supervision, and a large number of students completed Master’s thesis under his supervision. He is continuing these services in addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses. He has a number of articles in peer reviewed journals, periodicals, proceedings, and edited volumes, and monographs and research reports to his credit. He also presented a number of research articles at professional conferences. He conducted a number of survey research funded by state and local agencies in USA, and in Bangladesh, international agencies--Canadian CIDA, Asia Foundation, USAID, World Bank, United Nations, as a principal investigator, co-principal investigator or consultant. He is recipient of awards from HBCUS research consortium, Department of Mathematics of Morgan State University, and academic fellowships /scholarships. He enjoys participating in professional and community activities.
