Following a period of study and reporting by the College faculty that began as early as 1958, then Morgan State College was granted the authority by the 1964 General Assembly of Maryland to begin a program of graduate studies. Thus, the School of Graduate Studies came into existience and plans were made to offer the first graduate courses in September, 1964.
The School of Graduate Studies is under the direction of the Graduate Council with the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies serving as Chairman. The Graduate Council, consisting of ex-officio, elected, and appointed members, is responsible for determining the basic policies of the School of Graduate Studies.
