Program Schedule

REU Participants:

REU students will move in the weekend prior to the first week of June.

Week 1
o Attend orientation session to expose them to the campus facilities at the host site
o Receive ID and meal cards
o Receive first of three checks
o Introduce to research labs, faculty advisors, and student mentors
o Create first draft of summer research plan
o Attend introductory lectures and activities on general research area

Week 2 - 8
o Research activities are conducted Monday-Thursday (32 hours per week)
o Every Monday: attend 1-hour research guidance workshop (online/in-person)
o Every Tuesday: weekly brown bag discussions and presentations of current activities or general research interests by REU/RET participants
o Every Wednesday: attend 1-hour lecture series by STEM faculty and researchers across all partner institutions (online/in-person)
o Every Friday

  • REU participant works on weekly report
  • Engage in team building activities
  • Present weekly reports and engage in discussions with peers, mentors, and teachers

Symposium: The research symposium is an all-day event which will occur within the last two weeks of the summer experience (the exact date depends on the host institution's schedule) 

RET Participants:

Week 1
RET participants will participate in STEM Curriculum Development Institute during the first week
o Day 1: Program introduction & introduction to the research process
o Day 2: Real world project-based learning with applied mathematics
o Day 3: Introduction to circuit design, construction, and analysis
o Day 4: Introduction to computer programming & the LINUX operating system
o Day 5: Introduction to faculty advisor and research topics & lab tours

Week 2 - 6
o Research activities are conducted Monday - Thursday (8 hours a day)
o Every Monday: attend 1-hour research guidance workshop (online/in-person)
o Every Tuesday: weekly brown bag discussions and presentations of current activities or general research interests by REU/RET participants
o Every Wednesday: attend 1-hour lecture series by STEM faculty and researchers across all partner institutions (online/in-person)
o Every Friday

  • RET participant works on lesson plan and distills research conducted into appropriate activities
  • Faculty advisor from School of Education works with RET participant on developing lesson plans
  • Engage in team building activities
