Program Schedule
REU Participants:
REU students will move on the weekend prior to the first week of June.
Week 1
- Attend orientation session to expose them to the campus facilities at the host site
- Receive ID and meal cards
- Receive first of three checks
- Introduce to research labs, faculty advisors, and student mentors
- Create the first draft of the summer research plan
- Attend introductory lectures and activities on the general research area
Week 2 - 8
- Research activities are conducted Monday-Thursday (32 hours per week)
- Every Monday: attend 1-hour research guidance workshop (online/in-person)
- Every Tuesday: weekly brown bag discussions and presentations of current activities or general research interests by REU/RET participants
- Every Wednesday: attend 1-hour lecture series by STEM faculty and researchers across all partner institutions (online/in-person)
- Every Friday
- REU participant works on a weekly report
- Engage in team-building activities
- Present weekly reports and engage in discussions with peers, mentors, and teachers
Symposium: A research symposium is an all-day event which will occur within the last two weeks of the summer experience (the exact date depends on the host institution's schedule)
RET Participants:
Week 1
- RET participants will participate in STEM Curriculum Development Institute during the first week
- Day 1: Program introduction & introduction to the research process
- Day 2: Real-world project-based learning with applied mathematics
- Day 3: Introduction to circuit design, construction, and analysis
- Day 4: Introduction to computer programming & the LINUX operating system
- Day 5: Introduction to the faculty advisor and research topics & lab tours
Week 2 - 6
- Research activities are conducted Monday - Thursday (8 hours a day)
- Every Monday: attend 1-hour research guidance workshop (online/in-person)
- Every Tuesday: weekly brown bag discussions and presentations of current activities or general research interests by REU/RET participants
- Every Wednesday: attend 1-hour lecture series by STEM faculty and researchers across all partner institutions (online/in-person)
- Every Friday
- RET participant works on a lesson plan and distills research conducted into appropriate activities
- A faculty advisor from the School of Education works with RET participant on developing lesson plans
- Engage in team-building activities
