About the SOE

Our School of Engineering is an excellent place to earn an engineering degree. Here we offer educational programs which ensure that students acquire the ability to master fundamental principles of engineering which may be applied effectively to benefit society. In addition to the nationally competitive accredited programs in industrial, electrical, and civil engineering, there are diverse opportunities for research, internships, and other work experiences. We are especially noted for our close faculty/student interaction, low student/faculty ratio in engineering courses, and opportunities for pre-professional experiences through participation in undergraduate engineering organizations.

To ensure your success there is a Director of Freshman Programs and a retention coordinator working as a team with faculty and staff to assist you in negotiating the college environment. Our facilities are excellent. Currently, our programs are housed in the $12 million state of the art Mitchell Engineering Building and our newly acquired William Donald Schaefer Engineering Building.Should your schedule permit, we are pleased to extend an invitation to you and your parents to visit our School of Engineering. Leading in Education
THE CLARENCE M. MITCHELL, JR. SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

Comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and innovative education is the focus of the Bachelor of Science programs offered within the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering. We're a major contributor to the growing ranks of African American engineers in the country and abroad, and our success has been proven by the expanding popularity of our programs. Our ongoing partnerships with industry and government ensure our programs are always dynamic, relevant, and cutting-edge. In the School of Engineering, you will benefit from working within our state-of-art facilities, such as our Internet of Things and Wireless Networks and Security laboratories; Center of Excellence in Tactical and Advanced Communication Technologies; Engineering Visualization and Research Laboratory; Center of Microwave, Satellite, and RF Engineering; Center of Advanced Energy Systems and Environmental Control Technologies; Industrial Robotics and Automated Manufacturing Laboratory; and our environmental research laboratories.

STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
Our department of Transportation and Urban Infrastructure Studies houses the only state-of-the-art driving simulation laboratory in Maryland for high-level driver behavioral research. The National Transportation Center, along with its university partners funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, conducts transportation research, education, and technology transfer activities of national significance.

Our department of Electrical Engineering has some of the best hardware assurance instrumentation facilities in the country. MSU offers the only Industrial Engineering program in the state of Maryland.

Morgan State's Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies houses 16 civil engineering laboratories, including an earthquake shake table and both a subsonic and supersonic wind tunnel.


AREAS OF STUDY
The School of Engineering is made up of four distinct departments: the department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Electrical aNd Computer Engineering, the Department of industrial and Systems Engineering, and the Department of Transportation and Urban Infrastructure Studies. Undergraduate study in each of these departments and disciplines leads to a Bachelor of Science degree.

CIVIL ENGINEERING
The Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering offers a comprehensive foundation in planning, design, and management of civil infrastructure and service systems. The curriculum covers specializations including environmental, geotechnical, hydraulic, structural and transportation engineering. As a student, you'll prepare for a career in engineering, or for work in construction management or transportation.

ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING
The Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering teaches you to apply mathematical and physical concepts to engineering problems through laboratory and design experiences. In addition to a hands-on, design-focused curriculum, you'll gain knowledge in communications systems, signal processing, cyber engineering, microwave systems, Nano electronics, controls and automation, data engineering, and computer engineering. The program will prepare you for a career in multiple fields, including management engineering, product design, medicine, law, entrepreneurship, and software engineering.

INDUSTRIAL AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
The Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering provides a foundation based on the: 1) optimization of systems, 2) minimization of costs, 3) maximization of productivity, and 4) improvability of quality. Four areas of concentration include Human Engineering Systems, industrial and Management Engineering Systems, information and Systems Engineering, and Manufacturing Systems. These concentrations provide students with the ability to solve large problems through innovative and critical thinking while integrating people, information, material, money, and technological resources.

TRANSPORTATION AND URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE STUDIES
The Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation and Urban Infrastructure Studies offers a multidisciplinary program with focus on applied science. You will utilize mathematics, science, technological tools, and principles of engineering, planning, and management to solve complex transportation-related problems. The curriculum offers a broad foundation in planning, engineering, economics, management, and logistics to prepare you for a career in related transportation fields.

Our School of Engineering has the distinction of ranking number one in graduating the highest number of African American students in the State of Maryland and for consistently producing the highest number of African American electrical engineering graduates in the country.

TOP EMPLOYERS
Area employers actively seek our graduates. For example, top recruiters of students in our Department of Transportation and Urban Infrastructure Studies program include the District of Columbia Department of Public Works, Maryland Department of Transportation, Northrop Grumman, and the United States Department of Transportation. Civil Engineering students have been recruited by JMT, the Maryland State Highway Administration, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, the United States Department of Energy, and Louis Berger, among many others.
Students in other departments, such as Electrical Engineering, often find positions with top employers including Boeing, Booze Allen Hamilton, Exelon, IBM, J.P Morgan Chase, Lockheed Martin, MITRE, NASA, National Security Agency, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, SAIC, and the United States Department of Defense.


FURTHER STUDY

Our students often go on to pursue advanced graduate studies in colleges and universities across the country. Morgan's ABET-accredited engineering program is in the top two in the nation and the top-ranked for female students - for African American B.S. graduates who go on to receive a Ph.D.

At Morgan State, our School of Engineering offers a Master of Engineering degree as well as Doctor of Engineering degrees in Civil, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering. We also offer a one-year Master of Engineering in Cyber Engineering Degree, Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Transportation Studies, and a Ph.D. in Transportation and Urban Infrastructure Systems.
