On Saturday, October 20, 2018, 13 undergraduate SCMNS researchers presented their findings at the University of Maryland Baltimore County 21st Undergraduate Research Symposium in Chemical and Biological Sciences. Several of these students participate in the NIH-RISE, LSAMP, and ASCEND student research mentoring programs. The students are:

Three students from the Chemistry Department brought awards home to SCMNS. Adetuni Adetoye and Dr. Samokhvalov won second place in Chemical Sciences for their presentation, "Toward One-Pot Synthesis of Aluminium Metal-Organic Framework (Al-MOF) CAU-10 for Entrapment of Biomedically Active Molecules." Ayanna Culmer-Gilber, Dr. Winstead and Dr. Santosh Mandal won second place in Chemical Sciences for their presentation, "Microwave Synthesis of Fac-Tricarbonyl (Pentylcarbonato) (Α-Diimine) Rhenium Complexes." Pierce Perkins and Dr. Abebe won first place in Chemical Sciences for their presentation, "Facile Rhodamine-Based Fluorescent and Colorimetric Chemosensor for Sequential Detection of Al (Iii) And Azide (N3-) Ions."

Congratulations, and thanks for making SCMNS proud!
