01 Research Assistantships
NIGMS undergraduate students receive paid research training opportunities in research laboratories here at Morgan State University and at outside collaborating institutions.
02 Summer/Winter Break Research Training
NIGMS students receive full-time funding during the Summer and Winter University breaks to continue research with the principle investigators at Morgan and extramurally.
03 Travel to Scientific Conferences
The NIGMS Program sponsors student travel to scientific conferences and meetings to present scientific findings from their research laboratories. While in the Program, students are required to attend at least one (1) national/international conference.
04 Workshops, Seminars, and Symposia
Summer NIGMS Workshops are provided to help students with research skills, and with graduate school application processes. Weekly research seminars are provided throughout the academic year to highlight influential research professionals from various biomedical backgrounds. Additionally, students are provided with opportunities to present their data at in-house symposia at Morgan State University.
Students receive mentorship in relation to research, course selection, and the graduate school application process from the Program directors, principle investigators of their labs, and NIGMS faculty.
06 Graduate School Preparation
NIGMS emphasizes that each NIGMS students apply to a minimum of five graduate schools. Students must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) as part of the application process. NIGMS offers the educational guidance and resources necessary to prepare for successful testing outcomes and acceptance into graduate schools. Additionally, the Program stresses that each student tour his/her prospective graduate school(s).
