Green Bay Packaging Field Trip
Supply chain management students enjoyed a tour at the Baltimore division of Green Bay Packaging (GBP) on October 20, 2015 arranged by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). The tour started with a brief presentation from Mr. Tyson Aschliman (General Manager of GBP) to explain the history of GBP, the company's culture of innovation, and its specialty in custom corrugated packaging. Students were then guided to visit the company's onsite facility. They were given a demonstration of how different packaging materials were manufactured by numerous machines. Student were also showed the custom packaged boxes of several customers such as McCormick and Sensible Portions. GBP tour gave students much insight into an innovative and customer-oriented manufacturing process.
Domino Sugar Plant Tour
The field trip to the Domino Sugar refinery in downtown Baltimore took place on October 21, 2015 from 1:00 - 3:00pm. Four supply chain management students and two faculty member together with a team from Towson University participated in this trip. Students and faculty were provided with an overview of the sugar production process by an onsite presenter, and then had an interesting tour of the factory to see the operation from raw sugar cane ship unloading to finished granulated sugar packaging ready for the customer. Students were excited to view a systematic process of producing sugar and this instructive trip helped them understand the coordination of the process from suppliers to customer.
Field Trip to Port of Baltimore
A tour to the Port of Baltimore was arranged by Towson University for the 2nd Weinman Cup Case Competition participators. Morgan team together with other competitors had a bus tour to the Seagirt and Dundalk Marine Terminals in the afternoon on Feb 19, 2016. This tour included a brief presentation on the public-private partnership between Ports America Group and Maryland Port Administration and long term port development plans by Ports America Group as well. Visitors enjoyed a bus tour to see cargo movement, port infrastructure and the port environment.
Weinman Cup Case Competition
The 2nd Weinman Cup Regional Supply Chain Competition on held on February 18-19, 2016 at Towson State University. Morgan was invited to compete with other schools on a multi-disciplinary case which cross-covered topics including finance, marketing, management strategy and logistics. Two business students (Shante Swan, INSS Junior & Olamide Okelowo, Accounting Sophomore) formed a Morgan team and won the 2nd place.
