Dr. Sheikhattari is the Director of the Prevention Sciences Research Center. He was the Principal Investigator of a three-year ($1.4 million) community-based participatory research project from the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities aimed at reducing health disparities in tobacco use among residents of low income urban communities.

He has several years of experience working with national and international community-based health projects. Dr. Sheikhattari has collaborated with global organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), the
United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as with the Iranian public health system and NGOs. His research areas are community-based participatory research═ż social network theory═ż nicotine dependence and substance abuse.

Dr. Sheikhattari was an active member and the president of the Student Research Centers at two medical universities in Iran (Uromia and Kurdistan Medical Universities). He has been a key investigator in several college health and wellness studies, and has been advising student organizations on their health-related projects.
