Research Centers & Programs

Morgan State University's cross-school research centers and programs are important interdisciplinary efforts that address research and manufacturing challenges too complex for single-discipline programs. They provide focal points for the development and transfer of new technologies, processes, and equipment in a cooperative environment with academic, industrial, government, and non-profit organizations.


State-Supported Research Centers Program
The Advisory Committee for State-Supported Research Centers provides guidance and oversight for all Morgan State University research centers that receive significant appropriations from the State of Maryland.

ASCEND Center for Biomedical Research
ASCEND is A Student-Centered, Entrepreneurship Development Training Model to Increase Diversity in the Biomedical Research Workforce. Its primary goal is to strengthen biomedical training and research infrastructure by training undergraduate tsudents to become outstanding biomedical researchers.

Cybersecurity Assurance & Policy Center
The mission of the Cybersecurity Assurance and Policy (CAP) Center is to provide the electronics industry and intelligence community with knowledge, methodology, solutions, and skilled cybersecurtiy engineers to help prevent penetration and manipulation of our nation's cyber-physical infrastructures.

Center for Data Analytics and Sports Gaming Research
The Center for Data Analytics and Sports Gaming Research (DASGR) conducts rigorous and impactful research that guides State stakeholders in the development of comprehensive policies and programs in sports gaming and eSports that improve the lives of individuals in underserved and marginalized communities.

Center for Equitable Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems
The Center for Equitable Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems (CEAMLS) specializes in the mitigation of algorithmic bias through continuous research and engagement of academic and industrial leaders.

GESTAR II at Morgan State University
The Goddard Earth Sciences Technology and Research (GESTAR) II cooperative agreement is a NASA award to the University Space Research Association (USRA), Morgan State University (MSU) and other partners. GESTAR II's vision is to provide NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's (GSFC) Earth Science Division with opportunities to advance Earth science by providing a competitive environment to hire and retain high-quality scientists who are on track to be leaders at NASA, in academia and in industry.

National Transportation Center
The National Transportation Center (NTC) at Morgan State University advances US technology and expertise in transportation research and technology transfer.

Patuxent Environmental & Aquatic Research Laboratory
Research conducted at the Patuxent Environmental and Aquatic Research Laboratory (PEARL) is designed to increase the understanding of coastal ecosystems so that they may be properly managed and protected.

RCMI Center for Urban Health Disparities Research & Innovation
The mission of the Center for Urban Health Disparities Research and Innovation at Morgan State University (RCMI@Morgan) is to use a transdisciplinary team of both basic biomedical and public health/behavioral science researchers to conduct research to understand health issues disproportionately affecting minority groups, particularly those living in urban settings of Baltimore.

Rocketry Program
The Morgan State University Rocketry Program is funded by a grant from Base11, a nonprofit STEM workforce development company. The intent of the Base11 HBCU Rocketry Competition is to equip at least one HBCU with a robust, long-term rocketry program that will help develop talent for the aerospace industry.

Center for Urban Health Equity
The mission of the Center for Urban Health Equity (CUHE) is to positively impact the root causes of urban health disparities through asset-based community driven research and practice.

Urban Mobility & Equity Center
The Urban Mobility and Equity Center (UMEC) focuses on research to improve urban mobility of people and goods in an environmentally sustainable and equitable manner. Based at Morgan State University, UMEC includes the University of Maryland and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).

Institute for Urban Research
The Institute for Urban Research (IUR) aims to identify and research issues in the Baltimore region and, when relevant, share its findings with policy makers.

Center for Urban Violence and Crime
The mission of the Center for Urban Violence and Crime is to conducted evidence-based and promising applied and community participatory eserach that provides strategies and solutions that mitigate violence and crime in urban locales.
