Seasonal Updates & Campus Announcements

Our mission is to provide a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living-learning environment that supports your academic and personal success. In close collaboration with Facilities Management and our residential community, we work continuously to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency across all residence halls.

Seasonal HVAC Transition: Cooling to Heating (October)

As temperatures cool, our office works closely with Facilities Management to transition residence hall HVAC systems from air conditioning to heating.

  • Transition Timeline: The switch typically occurs between the second and third week of October (around October 15), based on extended weather forecasts and sustained cooler temperatures.
  • How Systems Work: Residence halls utilize seasonal HVAC systems that transition between cooling and heating in October and April. Unlike residential home systems, these building-wide systems require a coordinated transition period maintained by Facilities Management's boiler and chiller equipment. They are designed based on long-term weather patterns and cannot alternate rapidly between cooling and heating during daily temperature fluctuations.

How You Can Help:

  • Be patient during the transition period as our teams work safely and efficiently.
  • Remember that daily outdoor temperatures may fluctuate, but activation depends on sustained cooler weather.
  • Report any heating concerns promptly through our official maintenance channels.

Seasonal Pest Awareness: Fall Insect Activity

During late October and early November, you may notice an increase in ladybugs and stink bugs near windows, air vents, and sunny exterior walls as they seek warm shelter for hibernation.

Key Facts:

  • Both ladybugs and stink bugs are harmless to humans—they do not bite, sting, feed, or reproduce while hibernating.
  • They typically become inactive once outdoor temperatures remain consistently below.

Important Note — Please Do Not Squish Stink Bugs: Stepping on or squishing a stink bug releases a pheromone that attracts additional insects to the area.

Our Response: We work continuously with our professional pest control vendor to monitor and treat activity. If you see increased pest activity in your room, please submit a work order so Pest Control can assess and treat your space.

Together, we keep Morgan home. Stay warm, stay informed, and enjoy your fall semester!
