The Research Apprentices Program is a structured research-development experience that helps Morgan State University undergraduates strengthen the foundational competencies needed to participate successfully in faculty-mentored research. Through guided learning and applied activities, students develop a deeper understanding of how research is designed, evaluated, interpreted, and communicated.

Who should participate?

The program is intended for students from all majors who are preparing to begin research or who want additional training to strengthen their effectiveness in a current research experience.

What will you gain?

Participants will:

  • Strengthen critical thinking and research-literacy skills
  • Learn how researchers develop and investigate questions
  • Build confidence reading and evaluating scholarly literature
  • Develop an understanding of research design, ethics, and data
  • Improve their ability to interpret and communicate research findings
  • Prepare for more advanced research opportunities

Where does the program fit?

Research Apprentice is the second stage of the Office of Undergraduate Research’s student-development pathway:

Research Rookies → Research Apprentices → Research Ambassadors

Research Rookies helps students prepare to enter the research community. Research Apprentices develops the competencies needed to contribute more effectively to research, while Research Ambassadors provides opportunities for experienced students to mentor and lead.
