Find a Faculty Research Mentor

Find a Research Mentor Using ForagerOne

ForagerOne is Morgan State University’s online platform for connecting students with faculty researchers across departments and disciplines. The platform allows you to explore faculty members whose research, scholarly work, or creative activities align with your interests—even in fields you may not have previously considered.

What You Can Do on ForagerOne
Use ForagerOne to:

  • Search faculty profiles by research topic, discipline, department, or keyword.
  • Learn about faculty members’ research interests and current projects.
  • Identify faculty members who may be interested in mentoring students.
  • Bookmark faculty profiles and research projects for future reference.
  • Submit an interest statement or contact request through the platform.
  • Explore research opportunities, events, and announcements available to Morgan students.

Getting Started

  1. Visit ForagerOne and create or access your account using your Morgan State University email address.
  2. Complete your student profile before contacting a potential mentor.
  3. Include your major, academic interests, relevant coursework, skills, career goals, and previous experience.
  4. Search for faculty using keywords related to topics that interest you.
  5. Review each faculty member’s profile carefully before reaching out.
  6. Personalize your message to explain why you are interested in that faculty member’s work and what you hope to learn or contribute.

Make Your Profile Stand Out
Your ForagerOne profile serves as an introduction to prospective faculty mentors. Keep it accurate, professional, and up to date. Highlight relevant coursework, technical or creative skills, volunteer experience, employment, leadership activities, awards, and research interests. Previous research experience is not required—faculty also value curiosity, dependability, initiative, and a willingness to learn.

Before Contacting a Faculty Member
Take time to learn about the faculty member’s work. Read the information provided on the faculty profile and, when available, review the faculty member’s departmental webpage, recent publications, projects, or creative work. Your message should demonstrate that you are contacting the faculty member for a specific reason—not simply sending the same request to everyone.

Remember: A faculty profile does not necessarily mean that the faculty member currently has an opening. If you do not receive a response, follow up politely after approximately one week and continue exploring other potential mentors. Finding the right match may require contacting several faculty members.

ForagerOne provides a strong starting point, but successful mentoring connections are built through thoughtful preparation, professional communication, and shared interests.
