Monterey Jazz Festival Names New Artistic Director: Darin Atwater
The Monterey Jazz Festival, the world’s longest continuously-running jazz festival, has announced Darin Atwater as its next artistic director. He succeeds Tim Jackson, who is stepping down next year after a 32-year tenure. Born in Washington, D.C., Atwater moved to Baltimore to attend Morgan State University and Peabody Conservatory. He made his orchestral debut with the National Symphony Orchestra in his hometown as a composer and pianist.
