Q. WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS HOURS?
A. The Business Office of the Murphy Fine Arts Center is open 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday-Friday. The ticket office hours are separate from the Business Office. The Ticket Office is open Monday - Friday: from 10 AM - 6 PM; and on Saturdays: from 10 AM - 4 PM. The ticket office is open on Sundays only when there is an event on Sunday. On those days, the ticket office will open 2 hours prior to the event start time.
Q. WHERE DO I PARK WHEN VISITING THE MURPHY FINE ARTS CENTER?
A. The MFAC has a large, free parking lot behind the facility--referred to as the Y Lot. Once you turn onto McCallum Drive (on the east side of the building), travel to back of the building until you see a large lot labeled Y LOT. Parking there is always free fro MFAC visitors and patrons. When visiting to purchase tickets, patrons can quick-park their vehicles on the wide sidewalk at the front of the MFAC for the few minutes they will be at the ticket office window (i.e. max 15 minutes). All event parking must be in the Y-LOT.
Q. WHERE IS THE JAMES E. LEWIS MUSEUM OF ART?
A. The James E. Lewis Museum of Art (JELMA) is located off of the main lobby of the Murphy Fine Arts Center. Its hours are Tuesday - Friday: 10 AM - 4 PM; Saturday: 11 AM - 4 PM; Sunday: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM. The Museum is closed on Mondays. For details on the JELMA, please visit: www.jelmamuseum.org
Q. WHO IS THE CARL J. MURPHY FINE ARTS CENTER NAMED AFTER?
A. Carl J. Murphy was the first African-American member of the Board of Regents for (then) Morgan State College. He was a civil rights activist, educator (taught German at Howard University and headed became the department head in 1918) and an publisher (his father was the founder of the Afro-American newspaper enterprise). He assumed the role of publisher and editor-in-chief in 1922 upon his father's death.
Q. WHERE IS THE MURPHY FINE ARTS CENTER LOCATED?
A. The MFAC's physical address is 2201 Argonne Drive. We are located in northeast Baltimore--around 4 miles north of downtown Baltimore and 4 miles south of the Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695). Please see the DIRECTIONS link on this website for details.
Q. HOW DO I GET TICKETS TO AN EVENT THAT IS TAKING PLACE A THE MURPHY FINE ARTS CENTER?
A. Most events that are held at the MFAC are available through Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster Charge-by-Phone at 410-547-SEAT, or at Ticketmaster outlets). The MFAC Ticket Office only sells tickets for MFAC events. When purchasing tickets at our ticket office, the convenience and handling fees are eliminated. A small percentage of events that take place at the MFAC do not make tickets available through the ticket office. In those cases, the event owner/producer will provide specific information about admission costs and ticketing. Q. CAN I PURCHASE TICKETS FOR NON-MFAC EVENTS AT THE MURPHY FINE ARTS CENTER?
A. NO. The MFAC Ticket Office only sells tickets to events that are being presented at the Murphy Fine Arts Center. However, there is a full-service Ticketmaster outlet located on the first floor of the University Student Center. Please call 443-885-1522 to confirm the hours of operation.
Q. CAN I RESERVE A THEATER OR FACILITY IN THE MURPHY FINE ARTS CENTER?
A. It depends. The Murphy Fine Arts Center is a business-to-business concern (i.e., we can license use of our facilities to another incorporated business or established organization). We do not rent our facilities for personal events (e.g., wedding receptions, showers, parties).
