IT Governance

The purpose of any IT governing body is to ensure the effective and efficient use of information technology in enabling an organization to achieve its goals. The university currently has two IT governance committees.

For more information about IT Governance at Morgan State University, please contact Dr. Cynthia Mendoza (cynthia.mendoza@morgan.edu).

ERP Governance Committee

In the fall of 2016, an IT governing body called the Enterprise Resource Planning Governance Committee (ERPGC) was formed. Morgan State University's ERP system is Banner. The purpose of this committee (as with any other IT governance committee) is to ensure the university's IT infrastructure supports and enables the achievement of our institutional goals, strategies, and objectives. Specifically, the committee's focus is on ERP-related matters. In the spirit of true governance and transparency, the committee is not chaired by members of the DIT staff.  Instead, Ms. Aisha Odero (Technical Analyst for Enrollment Management & Student Success) and Mr. Montague Blount (Associate Registrar) co-chair the committee.  Committee members represent areas such as:  Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment, Bursar's Office, Comptroller's Office, Finance & Administration, Financial Aid, Graduate School, Human Resources, Institutional Research, Internal Audit, DIT, Procurement, Records & Registration, and Restricted Funds Accounting.  The committee meets monthly (or as needed) to discuss a variety of topics including, but not limited to ERP project prioritization, change management, policy review, etc.

NOTICE:

The ERPGC's first order of business was to design a process that streamlines and documents all ERP project proposals. As a result of the committee's efforts, the ERP Project Proposal Process was created, vetted, and is now ready to be put in place. Beginning Monday, June 19, 2017, all projects requiring Banner integration must be submitted via to the ERP Governance Committee for review (ERPgovernance@morgan.edu). Any ERP project proposals (verbal or written) submitted outside of this online process, will not be considered.

Academic Technology Governance Committee

In the fall of 2016, an IT governing body called the Academic Technology Governance Committee (or AT Governance Committee) was formed. The purpose of this committee (as with any other IT governance committee) is to ensure the university's IT infrastructure supports and enables the achievement of our institutional goals, strategies, and objectives. Specifically, the committee's focus is on Academic or Instructional Technology related matters. In the spirit of true governance and transparency, the committee is not chaired by members of the DIT staff. Instead, Dr. Melissa Littlefield (Chairperson of the MSW Program) and Ms. Karen Rubinstein (Director of Academic Technology Services ) co-chair the committee. The committee members represent each of Morgan's schools or colleges, Academic Affairs, Morgan Online and several administrative units (Morgan Library, Residence Life, Bookstore, and OIT).  The committee meets twice a semester (or as needed) to discuss a variety of topics including, but not limited to the following:

  • Formal procedures for recommending, evaluating and adopting instructional technology
  • Procedures guiding Morgan's Learning Management System
  • Processes for communicating changes and updates related to instructional technology to the Morgan community
