What We Do
The Office of Alumni Relations makes a special effort to strengthen its relationship with the alumni by publishing two issues of the Alumni News; publishing an alumni directory every five (5) years; distributing email blasts; hosting various receptions, events and activities to involve alumni; organizing chapters in areas where there is an interest; providing support for organized alumni chapters; selecting a "host" hotel for Homecoming and other classic games; providing a mechanism for alumni to connect to the University as well as to each other through the alumni online community; coordinating meeting space and overnight accommodations for alumni and others to stay in the Alumni House; sending "lost alumni" packets to recently located alumni; planning alumni trips; managing the alumni database, managing the annual dues and life membership programs; securing alumni organizational tags from MVA; sending out "Welcome Packets" to new graduates; and managing the various programs and activities of the MSU Alumni Association.
The Office of Alumni Relations works closely with the various classes in planning for their various reunions by assisting them with securing space for meetings; providing lists and labels; preparing and sending out class mailings; developing special brochures for reunion classes; ordering academic regalia for the 50th Anniversary classes; providing gifts for 50th Anniversary class and meeting with Class Agents twice a year.
The Office of Alumni Relations, in conjunction with the MSU Alumni Association, sponsors a number of events to bring alumni together including the Annual Alumni Awards and Class Reunion Luncheon, Annual Memorial Service for Deceased Alumni, Faculty, Staff and Students; receptions during Homecoming, MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Basketball Tournament, and other Football Classics.
Recognition of Alumni
We provide an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of our alumni during our Annual Alumni Awards and Recognition Luncheon including awards such as Alumnus/Alumna of the Year, Chapter of the Year, Special Achievement, Special Contribution and Honorary Alumnus/Alumna; MEAC Basketball Tournament Distinguished Alumni Award; Alumni on the Move (Section in the Alumni News); and yearly recognizing those classes with the highest giving rate.
The Office of Alumni Relations works closely with the students in an opportunity to develop a relationship that will hopefully continue once they graduate. This is done by providing a stipend for Mr. and Miss Morgan; serving as an advisor to the Pre-Alumni Council; having students to volunteer at our various events; providing each graduate with a gift; sending each graduate a "Welcome Packet" that includes a new alumni welcome letter, their 2-year free membership card and a list of chapters; and assisting, on occasion, Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment in identifying alumni to assist with college fairs.
