Morgan Awarded $100,000 NCAA Grant to Launch AI-Enhanced Academic Support Initiative
Morgan State University Athletics has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the NCAA’s Accelerating Academic Success Program to launch a new initiative designed to expand access to academic support for Morgan State student-athletes.
The initiative, Enhancing Student-Athlete Academic Success Through AI-Enhanced Chatbot Technology Integration, will provide student-athletes with another way to connect with academic resources and support related to advising, eligibility, wellness and other areas of the collegiate experience, with a particular focus on freshman and transfer student-athletes.
The project grew from a collaboration between Morgan Athletics and the Division of Information Technology to explore how Morgan State’s technology capabilities could further support student-athlete success. Vice President and Director of Athletics Dena Freeman-Patton was an early partner in the initiative.
Vice President and Chief Information Officer Timothy Summers is among the University leaders serving on the project committee.
The grant reflects a broader approach to technology at Morgan State, applying emerging tools thoughtfully to address real needs while keeping people, purpose and responsible use at the center.
