Honors Scholarships - Effective Fall 2017

The MSU Office of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment admits eligible students to the Honors College. The Honors College Selection Committee reviews incoming Honors students for the purpose of allocating Honors Scholarships. Students selected to receive an Honors Scholarship are notified by a separate letter.  

Application Deadlines

Freshman and Transfer Applications

Priority: November 15 - Decisions are released by February 15

Regular: February 15 - Decisions are released by April 15

COMPLETE APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY NOVEMBER 15

Below is a list of Honors Scholarships are available to first-time freshmen:

The Martin D. Jenkins Scholarship

(In-State Requirements)
Minimum GPA: 3.30
Minimum SAT: 1200 (old), 1270 (new) or ACT: 26
Award Amount: up to FULL tuition and fees, room and board (14-meal plan), plus $1,000 a year for books

(Out-of-State Requirements)
Minimum GPA: 3.40
Minimum SAT: 1250 (old), 1310 (new) or ACT: 28
Award Amount: up to FULL tuition and fees, room and board (14-meal plan), plus $1000 a year for books

The Harriet Tubman Scholarship

(In-State Requirements)
Minimum GPA: 3.00
Minimum SAT: 1000 (old), 1080 (new) or ACT: 21 
Award Amount: up to $7,500 per year

(Out-of-State Requirements)
Minimum GPA: 3.10
Minimum SAT: 1050 (old), 1120 (new) or ACT: 23
Award Amount: up to $7,500 per year

NOTE:  Transfer student applicants to the Honors College may have up to 70 credits on their transcripts.

The Clayton Stansbury Scholarship

Minimum GPA: 3.00
Minimum of 24 Community College Credit Hours
Award Amount: up to $4000 per year

The Parren J. Mitchell Scholarship

Minimum GPA: 3.50
Minimum of 56 Credit Hours or an AA/AS degree from a Community College
Award Amount: up to $10,000 per year

Scholarships for Continuing Students:

Continuing students who have completed 30-56 credit hours and maintained a minimum GPA of 3.30 may apply for admission to the Honors College.  The number of available slots in Honors varies each year, and is dependent upon available funding.  The applications for continuing students will be posted on the Honors College website (www.morgan.edu/honorscollege) from 01 January to 31 March each academic year.  Selected students will be admitted to the Honors College in the Fall of the next academic year.  Honors Scholarships awarded to admitted continuing students will be funded up to $7500 per year, for a maximum of two (2) years
