Pilot your English Career

The Master of Arts in English at Morgan State University invites you to chart a bold, expansive path through language, literature, and creative innovation. This dynamic, interdisciplinary program offers three distinct tracks—Literature and Language, Creative Writing (across all genres), and Film & Visual Storytelling, including animation and documentaries—while immersing students in traditional literary study, technical and expository writing, screenwriting, multicultural and gender studies, digital storytelling, and Digital Humanities, including AI. A defining strength of the program is its sustained focus on African and African Diasporic Studies, with deep engagement in Black literature and cultural traditions from Africa, the Caribbean, and the global diaspora. Students integrate rigorous research, creativity, and professional practice through opportunities to publish, write grants, study abroad, and collaborate across disciplines. They regularly present their work at major national and international conferences—both on global stages and at Morgan State with leading scholars and creatives from around the world—and learn directly from nationally and internationally acclaimed writers, researchers, filmmakers, and creatives.
