Grade point average and standardized test scores do not always provide a complete or accurate measurement of a student's potential for success. Morgan State University (MSU) and The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) are aware that while standard assessment tools are strong indicators of academic potential, test scores are not always indicative of a student's ability to successfully earn a degree.

NEXUS provides an alternative for students with drive and potential by providing access to two outstanding schools. Resources, strong academics and solid support systems from both institutions along with YOUR determination will ensure YOUR opportunity to meet and exceed the University's admissions requirements. The NEXUS PROGRAM (Network for Excellence and Undergraduate Success) ensures that all students are provided with access to a quality college education.

NEXUS program participants, while officially CCBC students, begin their academic journey on Morgan State University grounds, and once transferred* will remain on the MSU campus. The word "NEXUS" means center, connection, core, link, network, tie, union, bond. Being a NEXUS student denotes that two schools have bonded to provide a network of services and opportunities from which each participant SHALL benefit and SHALL succeed. Participation in the program is by exclusive invitation only. Contact the Program Coordinator/Community College Liaison for more information at 443-885-1585 or e-mail

  • Placement Testing for the NEXUS Program - MANDATORY
    • Admission into the NEXUS Program is contingent upon meeting minimum placement scores. So that we may confirm your admission and determine your English and Math placement, you must take both the ACCUPLACER Placement Test and the online ALEKS Practice Placement, Preparation and Learning Assessment (ALEKS PPL) to ensure the best chance of success in appropriate English and Mathematics courses. Placement test results will be used to develop your NEXUS class schedule.
      While the NEXUS Program is able to offer a range of English and Math courses through the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), students must place in Academic Literacy (ACLT 052) and Whole Number Arithmetic and Pre-Algebra (MATH 010-081) or higher in order to participate in the program. Developmental education courses are zero-credit and do not count towards the 120 credits required for graduation at MSU but will meet pre-requisites required for college English and Math.
    • You will need to take the Placement Test if:
      • You are taking more than 6 credits of courses which have developmental prerequisites, and;
      • You have never attended college before; and
      • You have SAT scores that are below 570 in Critical Reading, Writing and Math; or
      • You have ACT scores that are below 24 in Reading, Writing, and Math
    • You may be exempt from Placement Testing if:
      • You have SAT scores that are above 570 in Critical Reading, Writing and Math; or
