Regarding Student Refunds April 14, 2020

Dear Students,

As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic required the University to take immediate and necessary actions to protect the health and safety of all students, faculty and staff, including instituting remote instruction for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester and requiring students to not return to student housing after spring break due to the campus being closed. As such, the University has been developing a plan to refund students and their families for costs they have already paid for services and facilities that they are no longer able to utilize as a result of classes moving solely to remote instruction and the campus being closed. The University plans to provide a refund of room, board, and certain fees, on a prorated basis, to those students who have paid the University for these services for the Spring 2020 semester.

Specifically, the prorated refund for eligible Morgan students will be for room and board, which includes meal plans, and the following fees: Athletics, Facilities, and Parking. Fee refunds will be for both full-time and part-time and undergraduate and graduate students.

All refunds will be subject to Federal Aid and Title IV guidelines and may vary depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to, unpaid balances, the specific original room and board charges and other charges applicable to each student, and institutional grants received. After we calculate each eligible student's refund amount, refunds will show up as credits to student accounts and will be applied first to any outstanding balances. Any remaining balances will likely be disbursed to eligible students using our refund partner, BankMobile, as with the regular student refund process. The University hopes to be able to provide refunds in the next 30 days, but we will endeavor to keep you updated on our progress in the event that the refunds are delayed.

We know this is an uncertain time, and we are committed to continuing our work to support the health of our community and the academic progress of our students. Please visit www.morgan.edu/coronavirus for updates and FAQ's on this evolving situation.

We appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,

Mr. Sidney Evans, Jr., Vice President for Finance and Management / CFO
Dr. Kevin Banks, Vice President for Student Affairs
