Dr. Madiha Ammari is currently a lecturer in Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Ammari received her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and both her M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from University of Jordan, in Amman, Jordan.
Dr. Ammari has a well-established experience in academic teaching, research, and collegiate service that spans over a decade on international and national campuses in the US, UAE and Jordan. She has made many contributions to support improving the curriculum for ABET accreditation. Dr. Ammari teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Structural Engineering.
Dr. Ammari’s research focuses on concrete and concrete structures. She managed research efforts that combine construction materials and structural engineering for productive research in analytical and experimental studies. She specializes in Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC). She was a Post Doctoral Research Associate at the Turner Fairbank Highway research center at Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) investigating time-dependent behavior of UHPC due to shrinkage and creep and its effect on the structural behavior of prestressed concrete elements. Her research also extends in contributing to emerging technologies such as additive construction (3D concrete printing). She is a member in different committees in American Concrete Institute (ACI), Transportation Board (TRB) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Her research interests include:
· Development of sustainable and novel concrete and its application in innovative pavement and structural systems.
· Implementation of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) in prestressed and post-tensioned structures and overlays.
· Using UHPC and steel-concrete composites in accelerated construction.
· Using innovative UHPC in 3D printing systems and façade applications.
· Large-scale experimental testing and computational modeling of UHPC, novel concrete, and composite construction materials applied to structures and bridges.
· Design of resilient structures and behavior of buildings subjected to extreme natural hazards.
· The durability of innovative concrete and crack growth characterization due to thermal stresses and fatigue loading.
· Life cycle assessment and life cycle cost evaluation for structural systems.
· Implementing IoT and AI in nondestructive testing for repair and rehabilitation applications of existing rigid pavements, concrete structures and bridges.
· Bridge preservation using autonomous inspection and machine-driven repair and maintenance systems.
