The Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) program at Morgan State University invites students, alumni, higher education professionals, scholars, and colleagues from across the country to join us for the Fall 2026 HESA Talk Series.

Hosted by Morgan State’s Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership, and Policy (DASLP), the HESA Talk Series brings scholars and practitioners together to discuss current research, emerging issues, and important questions shaping higher education and student affairs. All talks are free, open to the public, and held virtually on Fridays from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom.

This fall’s seven talks include:

  • September 4: From “Throw Apartheid Out the Door” to “Ceasefire Now!”: Divestment Campaigns in Higher Education with Dr. Jude Paul Dizon, California State University, East Bay
  • September 11: Cultivating Joy in Perilous Times: A Q&A about the Research on Black Joy with Dr. Antar A. Tichavakunda, University of California, Santa Barbara
  • September 18: Reflections and Meditations on Conceptual Scholarship and a More Critical Study of Education with Dr. Jordan Harper, Morgan State University
  • September 25: The Missing Middle of AI Governance: Visibility as the Foundation for Trust with Dr. Brandeis Marshall, Data + AI Governance Strategist and Founder of Black Women in Data

  • October 23: A Critical Conversation on AI in Education with Dr. Marie Heath, Loyola University Maryland, and Dr. Stephanie Smith Budhai, University of Delaware

One registration provides access to the HESA Talk Series throughout the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 academic year. Participants are welcome to attend as many talks as their schedules allow.

The series is designed to extend conversations beyond Morgan State. We encourage alumni, colleagues, professional associations, graduate students, and friends of the HESA program to share the series with their professional networks and invite others to join the conversation.
