Dr. Turner-Musa is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology; she also serves as the Interim Director of the Center for Predictive Analytics.  She joined the Morgan State University faculty in 2001. Dr. Turner-Musa earned her doctorate in Social Psychology from Howard University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Mental Health Services from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Turner-Musa is the Director of the Student Training Core in the Morgan State University ASCEND Biomedical Center for Research. She also served as the Co-Director of the Maternal and Child Health Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement-Undergraduate Program awarded to the Kennedy Krieger Institute and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2011 – 2013) and Principal Investigator of the Morgan State University Undergraduate Training Program in Prevention Science funded by the National Institute of Mental Health from 2002 - 2008.

Her research focuses on understanding the role of psychological and social factors in disease management and health promotion. Research includes examining shared family religious/spiritual beliefs on psychological outcomes of African Americans with end-stage renal disease as well as examining the role of religiosity, spirituality, and social support on health behaviors of African American college students. Dr. Turner- Musa’s research also examines factors associated with interests in pursuing biomedical research careers. Dr. Turner-Musa’s publications are included in Healthcare, the Journal of Community Psychology, Journal of Drug Education, Healthcare, and the American Journal of Health Behavior.  Learn more about her research via https://psychology-reachlab.weebly.com/

Dr. Turner-Musa is a member of several professional organizations such as the American Psychological Association (APA). She served as President for APA Division 1, The Society for General Psychology(2021-2022). She was a participant in the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (Class of 2014) and the Association of American Colleges & Universities STEM Leadership Institute. She has served as a member of the Morgan State University Institutional Review Board (IRB) and University Council. Dr. Turner-Musa has received numerous awards including an American Fellows Award from the American Association of University Women, a Minority Fellowship Program award from the APA Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs, and the Morgan State University School of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences Deans Award for Outstanding Research.
