What can I do with Blackboard (Bb)?
Blackboard (Bb) enables you to post course information, such as a syllabus and course material.  You can also use the discussion board, send email to students as well as create exams and assignments.  You will need to inform students of the features you intend to use.   (back to top)

How do I get a Blackboard Account? 
Faculty are automatically added to Blackboard at the start of each semester. You should use your Morgan Network user name and password to log in.  If you can log into your Morgan email account, but not Blackboard, you may need to establish a Blackboard account.  Visit http://morgan.blackboard.com and complete the Account/Course Request form.    (back to top)

What is my Blackboard User Name and Password?
Your Blackboard user name and password are the same as your Morgan Network user name and password.  When you change your Morgan Network password, it also gets applied to Blackboard.     (back to top)

What if I can log into my Morgan Email, but not Blackboard?
If you are a new user, you may need to establish a Blackboard account.  Contact Karen.Rubinstein@morgan.edu, or Sabah.Karam@morgan.edu, or text or voice message 443-267-8885.  Specify that you have a Morgan Account, but need to be added to Blackboard.    (back to top)

I was given a different course section than is listed on Blackboard, what should I do? 
Send an email to Karen.Rubinstein@morgan.edu, or call extension 1103.  Provide the new CRN and course name/section number and specify the incorrect section CRN and course name/section number.    (back to top)

Where should I direct students with log-in problems?
Students are added to Blackboard, and enrolled in Blackboard courses at the beginning of each semester.  Most students simply need to change their Morgan Network password and they will be able to log in to Blackboard.  If they are returning students, and have set up their Security Questions, they can access it at: http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu.  If they need additional password help they should contact the HELP Desk on extension 4357 or one of the Blackboard Administrators.    

New students who have a Morgan Network account, but still cannot log in should contact a Blackboard Administrator and provide their Morgan user name, and a list of courses they need for Blackboard.

Where can I get specific instructions for Blackboard?
Once you log into Blackboard, click the HELP icon at the top of the screen.  Then, click Instructions for Faculty, Blackboard Training Site.  There you’ll find handouts and videos for most features of Blackboard.  The direct link to the training site is:

My roster from WebSIS lists students who are not listed in my Blackboard course.  Can I enroll them myself?
Your WebSIS roster is always the official class roster!  Blackboard has no automatic connection to WebSIS.   If you need to add a student, follow these instructions:

1.      Expand the Users/Groups area of the Control Panel. Select Users

2.      Click “Find Students to Enroll.” 

3.      Browse for the student by last name or user name, and click the search button.

4.      You can then check them off the list, and click the Submit button. You shoudl now see the student's user name in the "enroll" field.  Click Submit to enroll the student.

What is the format for faculty and staff usernames?
The format for faculty and staff e-mail usernames is firstname.lastname@morgan.edu.  Your username is everything before the "@" sign.    (back to top)

How long is my e-mail account active after I leave the University?
Typically, e-mail accounts are active for approximately 180 days after an employee leaves the University.     (back to top)

I don't always turn off my computer when leave the office. Will this have any effect on my e-mail?
Leaving your computer on will not affect your e-mail. However, you should turn off your computer at least once a week-otherwise you could be missing important password expiration notices, as well as virus and Windows updates.     (back to top)

Am I able to forward my Morgan e-mail to another e-mail account?

What "settings" information do I need to set up Morgan e-mail on my handheld device?
Follow the instructions in your user's manual for E-mail setup.  Enter the following information when instructed: 
Incoming Server (POP3):  email.morgan.edu 
Outgoing Server (SMTP):  mail-relay.morgan.edu
When you change your e-mail password on your own or via the Help Desk, remember to also change it on the e-mail settings for your handheld device.

How can I check my e-mail quota?
We currently do not use quotas with the e-mail system. We do encourage users to be responsible with their mailboxes and ask that you regularly back up your mail to your office computer and delete unneeded mail from your mailbox.     (back to top)

Contact the HELP Desk on extension 4357 and the e-mail administrator will investigate this issue

What do I do if I forgot my e-mail/network password?
If you have set up your security questions, click on the Change My Password link at http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu, answer your security questions, and change your password. Otherwise, call the HELP Desk on extension 4357.     (back to top)

It depends. If you have set up your security questions, click on the Change My Password link at http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu, answer your security questions, and change your password. Otherwise, you will have to call the HELP Desk on extension 4357.

I have tried using the http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu site to change my password or unlock my account, but it doesn't work.  What should I do?
If you have not set up your Security Questions using the http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu site prior to using the Change My Password or Unlock my Account links, it will not work.  You should call the Help Desk on extension 4357 for assistance.  Once your password is reset by the Help Desk staff, visit the http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu site and create your Security Questions.  Once your Security Questions are set up, you will be able to use the site to change your password or unlock your account.     (back to top)

E-MAIL MESSAGES ON WEBMAIL

When I click on either the "New" or "Reply" buttons, nothing happens.
The web interface is more than capable of allowing "new messages" and "replies" to messages. Check at the top of the page and make sure that you do not have any "Pop Up Blockers" enabled.     (back to top)

Why can't I see the original message in the reply window?
You must set this feature in Options. Click on Options, and then select "Composing" from the menu on the left of the page. When the Composing window opens, click on "include original inline," click on Apply and close the window.     (back to top)

How do I format my message so that recipients must acknowledge that they received or opened my message?
Before sending your message, click on Options and select "Composing" from the menu on the left of the page. When the Composing window opens, select the boxes for Read Receipt and/or Delivery Receipt, click on Apply and close the window. Then send the message.      (back to top)

Are staff members able to send out an automatic e-mail vacation message?
Yes, "away messages" can be set up in webmail, using the Options. Select Options, and then select "Auto Reply" from the menu on the left of the page. Change the default to Send Auto Replies and complete the form with your dates, message, etc. Click on Apply and close the window.     (back to top)

Can I change the Header in my Reply-to line?
Yes, in Options, select "Composing" from the menu on the left of the page, then complete the information under Heading. Click on Apply and close the window.      (back to top)

How do I empty my Trash folder?
Select the Trash folder in the far left-hand column. You will notice that the bar just below the Welcome bar now says "Trash." Open the drop down menu on "Delete" button by clicking on the arrow just to the right of the word "Delete." Click on "Empty Trash" to PERMANENTLY remove ALL mail from the "Trash" folder.

CLEAN ACCESS

What is Clean Access?
Cisco NAC Web Agent, also known as Clean Access, is a system that ensures computers connected to the Morgan network are up to date on patches, are running anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and have a firewall enabled.

Why was Clean Access installed at Morgan?
The State Legislative Auditors require that Morgan State University's network be secure from unauthorized access to critical systems.

Does Clean Access monitor me or my computer?
No.  The system does not monitor you, your computer, or the web sites you visit.

What actions should I take it I am unable to authenticate or log in to my computer using Clean Access?
You should right-click on the McAfee icon on the right hand corner of the bottom toolbar.  After you right-click, select UPDATE NOW and wait for the update to complete.  Then, retry your log on.  If after updating McAfee, you are still unable to authenticate/log in, try updating your Windows operating system at www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com; or update Java at www.java.com.  If these three actions do not help you log in, contact the Help Desk on extension 4357.

E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS

How do I view attachments in my e-mail on Webmail?
Attachments are at the bottom of the message. Double click on the message and the file should open with the appropriate program.     (back to top)

Is there a size limit for attachments in Webmail?
The total attachment size limit is 20 megabytes.     (back to top)


SPAM/JUNK MAIL

What should I do if I receive messages in my Inbox that are "junk" and did not go into my Junk Mail folder?
If you did not want to receive the message, highlight the message and then click on the Spam button on the tool bar. This will remove the message from your inbox, label it as Spam and you should not receive messages from this sender again.     (back to top)


EUDORA AND OUTLOOK USERS

When I log in to Webmail from home, I don't see the messages that I sent while I was at my desk using Outlook or Eudora. Why is that?
Messages sent using Outlook or Eudora will only appear in Outlook or Eudora.  Messages sent using Webmail will only appear in Webmail.  In other words, once mail has been sent from your desktop using Outlook or Eudora, it is removed from the server and cannot be viewed in Webmail.     (back to top)

Can I leave a copy of my incoming messages on the server so that I can view my Outlook messages from off campus?
Yes, there is an Option in Outlook that allows POP3 e-mail messages to be saved on multiple computers. Open Outlook, and select Tools, then select Account Settings under Tools. In Account Settings, you will see the tab E-mail with the words NEW REPAIR CHANGE. Select CHANGE. The Change E-mail Account window will open; at the bottom right, select MORE SETTINGS. The Internet E-mail Settings window will open; select the Advanced Tab. In the next window, find the word Delivery and check the box below Delivery that says "Leave a copy of messages on the server." Click OK and exit by closing all the windows. This will save incoming messages in Outlook and in your Webmail.     (back to top)

Why is e-mail sent from @morgan.edu addresses going to my "Junk Mail" in Outlook?
E-mails are processed through a series of filters before they
 reach your Inbox.  To ensure that Morgan e-mails are always delivered to your Inbox in Outlook, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Tools -- Options -- Junk e-mail -- "Safe Senders" tab -- Select ADD

  2. Type in "@morgan.edu" and click OK

This will let Outlook know that mail from @morgan.edu addresses is not junk.     (back to top)


APEX

What is APEX?
Oracle Application Express (or APEX) is the official reporting system used at Morgan State University. It is a user-friendly, web application development tool that allows the University's programming staff to develop and deploy secure, professional data and reports to functional users.     (back to top)

From where do the data within APEX originate?
Data within APEX can come from one of two data sources - a data warehouse or the live Banner production system - depending on the nature of the report. Data from the data warehouse are typically refreshed every couple of days. Data from the live Banner production system are real time data.     (back to top)

Can APEX be accessed from off campus?
Yes. APEX can be accessed from any computer around the world with internet access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.     (back to top)

How do I sign up for an APEX demo or training?

How do I obtain access to APEX?
Access to APEX can be granted by sending a written and signed request from your Vice-President, Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, or Chairperson to Cynthia Mendoza-Robinson. Be sure to include your name, department, extension, and University e-mail address. The request can be e-mailed to Cynthia.Mendoza@morgan.edu, faxed to extension 8211, or sent via campus mail to Carter Grant Wilson - Room 105.     (back to top)

How do I know when I have been granted access to APEX?
APEX access will be confirmed upon receipt of an e-mail from a University programming staff. The e-mail will include the link to access APEX, your username, and your password.    (back to top)

Can I import data from APEX into another application?
Yes. Data from most APEX reports can be imported into a spreadsheet. Most APEX reports contain a link marked "spreadsheet" or "download." These links can be found either at the very top or bottom of the report. Other APEX reports have a small toolbar on the top left-hand corner of the report. Click on the "green wheel" icon and select "Download" from the drop down menu.     (back to top)

My APEX session ends without warning. Why is this happening?
If you do not see the warning window, it is because your pop-ups are being blocked. You will notice a yellow bar at the top of the screen indicating that a pop-up has been blocked. Next to that message is a button that says "Allow." Click on the "Allow" button to allow all future pop-ups from APEX.      (back to top)
