HOW DO I


How do I use the search box?
The Discovery Search tool on the library's homepage is your go-to start for exploring the library's resources. All Resources will search both our catalog of printed materials and our online holdings. Articles searches our research databases, Books our catalog of printed books, and eBooks our electronic books. Credo Reference is a curated database of encyclopedia entries and other reference materials (think a scholarly Wikipedia). Use the check boxes at the bottom to narrow your search: Full-text will only search for materials you can read online, Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) is used to select journals that have been evaluated by scholars in the field before publication and is essential in academic research.


How do I search the library's databases for journal articles, newspapers, etc?
Using the search box is the simplest way, but if you prefer to select particular journals, select Resources -> Databases.


How do I find a book on the shelf?
We use the Library of Congress call number system. All our main circulating collection is on the third floor of the library. Periodicals including journals and newspapers are on the second floor. Reference materials & government documents are on the first floor.


How do I check out or renew a book?
To check out a book, bring it to the circulation desk at the front of the library with your Bear Card. You can renew either in person, by contacting the circulation desk, or by logging on to My Account in the main library menu.


How do I cite sources & avoid plagiarism?
The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) provides a valuable guide for constructing citations using three of the most common citation formats: MLA, APA, & AMA. OWL also includes resources on plagiarism.


How do I check my library account?
You can check your library account by logging into My Account from the main library menu.


How do I request an interlibrary loan?
You can request a loan from another library through our interlibrary loan system.


How do I check if my professor put materials on course reserve?
You can ask your professor if they have left anything on course reserve. These materials can be checked out from the circulation desk for two hours at a time (but cannot be taken out of the library). To check with the library, please contact circulation and provide the professor's name and course department & number.


How do I reserve a Study Room/Meeting Room/IT Classroom, etc?
Our website includes a room reservation system as well as calendars showing the rooms' availability.


How do I connect to databases & other services off campus?
Go through the normal process of using the search box or connecting directly to a database. You will be asked to log in with your ID number (the 14 digit barcode without the letters on the back of your Bear Card) and your last name.


How do I find if I am eligible to borrow from Morgan?
All Morgan students and staff are eligible, as well as alumni registered with the system. Members from the University System of Maryland & Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Library Consortium may also borrow from Morgan.


How do I find the Writing Center?
The Writing Center is located at the back of the first floor of the library in rooms 102-106 and 141. Contact the Director, Dr. Tristan Abbott, for more information or call (443) 885-4789.


How do I use the printers? Are they free?
You may use the printers in the computer labs on the first floor (rooms 117 and 118), and print up to 30 pages per day. Full printing procedures are included on our website.
