WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear New Morganite
I am delighted that you have chosen Morgan state University. Your matriculation
at this University is the first step on the journey to your future.
Morgan takes the "village" approach in its nurturing environment. We
are serious about preparing our students , the future citizens of the
world, and strive to graduate community-minded people who are passionate
and committed agents of change.
At Morgan, you will experience great personal and intellectual growth
as we inspire new thoughts and ideas and shape new perspectives. We
are a dynamic, growing institution that embraces the positive changes
that define high-quality education. We will, without exception, continue
to offer you the caliber of facilities, service and curricula that have
always defined our preeminence.
The faculty and staff at Morgan endeavor to create an ideal environment
for your growth and to cultivate a closely-knit undergraduate population.
They work together constantly to improve not only quality of education,
but also student life and student services. In addition, because we
are a diverse community with faculty, staff and students from all over
the world (at least fifty countries are represented), we contribute
to a vibrant cultural atmosphere. This diversity creates a social and
economic environment that reflects the gender, racial, cultural, ethnic
and economic diversity of our society.
Morgan's Center for Career Development works efficiently and diligently
to provide students with internships and job opportunities among other
things. Their mission is to assist undergraduate and graduate students
of all class levels, as well as degree-holding alumni, in their determination
of a major course of study, in the choice of a career direction or pursuit
of graduate education. Each year, they provide career related opportunities
to our students and many graduating students. Through their efforts,
many students accept well-paying jobs in the professions while others
attend graduate school.
Once again, I am quite excited that you chose Morgan to embark on one
of the most important journeys of your life. I extend my best wishes
to you as you begin fulfilling your career goals.
Sincerely,
Earl S. Richardson, President

ALMA MATER
- Fair Morgan, we love thee, so tried and so true,
Our hearts at thy name thrill with pride;
We owe thee allegiance, we pledge thee our faith,
A faith which shall ever abide.
CHORUS
We pledge thee our love, we pledge thee our faith,
Whatever the future may bring,
And thus our devotion, fidelity too,
And homage we pay as we sing.
- Fair Morgan, as onward the years quickly fly,
And thou livest in memory sweet.
We bring thee our laurels whatever they be,
And lay them with joy at thy feet.
CHORUS
Author: Flora E. Strout
It is customary that at the singing of the Alma Mater, all students
shall stand, and men shall bare their heads.

TRADITIONS
Promethean Procession: A traditional ceremony at the beginning
of the school year for incoming freshman. Named for Prometheus in Greek
Mythology, who, according to legend, created man from clay and brought
him to life by giving him the gift of fire. Prometheus thus means life
giving, creative or courageously original. This ceremony has evolved
into an inspiring assembly and candle light procession. During the procession,
new freshmen are challenged to keep their candles lit to symbolize their
ability to graduate from Morgan.
Convocations: A series of thematic assemblies that occur throughout
the academic year. The Matriculation Convocation inaugurates the school
year. Other convocations include Founders Day, Honors, Bill of Rights
and Performing Arts Convocations. These assemblies are meant to inspire,
inform, honor, and entertain the Morgan community. Convocations are
held during the University Hour which is 11 A.M. on Thursdays.
Homecoming: An annual social and athletic event that usually
occurs during the month of October. Festivities include a pep rally,
football game, tail-gate parties, concert, reunions and parties. The
event is enjoyed by current students and alumni who "come home" to celebrate
Morgan. Our school mascot is the Bear.
Graduation: An annual ceremony during which students who have
satisfactorily completed the degree requirements in their chosen field
are awarded diplomas. This event usually takes place at the end of the
spring semester in the month of May.
