The Strategic Plan for Morgan State University

Welcome to the web site for Growing the Future, Leading the World: the Strategic Plan for Morgan State University (2011 - 2021). Dr. David Wilson, President of Morgan State University, believes that a comprehensive and substantive strategic plan is not possible without an open, inclusive, and transparent strategic planning process. With these ideas in mind, the purpose of this web site is to share information about the strategic planning process and to invite you to participate by sharing your thoughts and ideas about the future of Morgan.

Morgan's current mission, which is found in the 2008 - 2012 Strategic Plan, is to offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate programs and a select set of graduate programs to a broad cross section of students in a supportive environment that encourages research and service directed towards the needs of underserved communities. The vision embedded in the current plan is to be recognized statewide and nationally for expanding student access, effective teaching, contributions to doctoral level research, and service to underserved populations. Promoting student learning and success and faculty scholarship and research are Morgan's core values.

President Wilson has articulated an emerging vision for Morgan focused on urban sustainability and applied research on intractable challenges facing Baltimore and other urban centers across the nation and around the globe. The goal is to develop a strategic plan that identifies goals and objectives to elevate Morgan's current Carnegie classification from DRU: Doctoral/Research University to RU/H: Research University (high research activity).

Based on feedback from numerous stakeholders, the Strategic Plan Steering Committee has developed A Proposed Blueprint for the 2011 - 2021 Strategic Plan. A tentative Calendar of Events and proposed strategic planning activities have also been prepared. After reviewing the proposed blueprint, the Steering Committee invites your feedback. Most recently, the Steering Committee has completed the final Draft of the Strategic Plan. You are encouraged to forward comments and recommendations about the Strategic Plan to Dr. Maurice C. Taylor, Vice President for University Operations and Chair of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee at
