Professor Dana Vickers Shelley develops and delivers strategic messages via multiple mediums; builds and maintains national brands; and achieves programmatic goals for social-impact, government, corporate, and philanthropic organizations. On the faculty of Morgan State University's School of Global Journalism and Communication, Shelley places heavy emphasis on increasing sophistication of critical thinking skills as students learn the components of becoming effective practitioners. She has also directed the Strategic Communication Department's student-run agency, The Strategy Shop.

Her leadership of dynamic, cross-cultural teams was integral to: raising awareness for the Annie E. Casey Foundation's campaign on grade-level reading to civic leaders through social media; mobilizing youth and families to lobby Florida and Mississippi state officials on juvenile justice reform for the Southern Poverty Law Center; and, at Edelman Public Relations, changing perceptions of the Nike brand by creating and promoting a global social responsibility program. A skilled facilitator and public speaker, Shelley has presented on civil rights, policy advocacy, and leadership development to Fulbright International Scholars Program, Independent Sector, Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families, and Yale Law School's Arthur Liman Public Interest Program. Shelley holds an M.P.A. from American University, and a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Native American Journalists Association, and Public Relations Society of America. She is active on social media (@DanaVShelley) sharing news and observations on communications, education, leadership, politics, and race in America.
