Denise Cabrera is a veteran journalist and teacher. She has practiced journalism across several platforms in major media outlets and taught at two other Maryland universities.
Cabrera was the first African-American bureau chief at The Associated Press, running the Baltimore operation for six years. During her 20 years with the world's largest newsgathering organization she also was a Capitol Hill and consumer affairs reporter and national news and D.C. Metro editor.
She has also served as Executive Editor of The Frederick News-Post, an assistant foreign editor and copy editor at The Washington Times and a researcher-reporter for NBC News in Washington and USA Today. Cabrera also has been a contributing editor to Patch.com, a hyper-local online news platform.
Cabrera was an adjunct professor and lecturer of Communication at Loyola University Maryland and the University of Maryland College Park.
