Summer Transportation Institute
The Summer Transportation Institute (STI) is a free program designed to encourage high school students to pursue careers in transportation.
The 2012 STI will be held on Morgan's campus July 9 -August 3. The non-residential program features four weeks of field trips, hands-on projects, and networking opportunities with industry professionals. The curriculum also includes SAT prep and activities that promote self-awareness.
Students receive a full scholarship that covers the entire cost of attending the program, including all lab fees and field trips. Lunch and bus passes are also provided daily. Each participant receives a $250 stipend upon completion of the program.
Application Requirements
To apply, students should be entering 10th , 11th , or 12th grade during the 2012-2013 school year; have completed or be qualified to enroll in pre-algebra; and have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
Students must also submit
- a completed application form
- an official transcript
- a 500-700 word essay that describes their career objective(s), interest in transportation, and how STI can help them achieve their goals. Essays must be typed and double-spaced.
- two letters of recommendation. (One letter must come from a math, science or technology instructor; the other reference may be written by someone familiar with the applicant's character, career aspirations, or community service.)
