RESEARCH INTERESTS/PROJECTS:

Research interests involve the design, development, and spectral characterization of near-infrared fluorescent compounds for applications in various analytical techniques. The goal is to use the advantages of fluorescence detection in the near-infrared region to increase the detection sensitivity of conventional visible region analytical techniques. Areas of focus for the development of near-infrared fluorescent molecules include their use as: probes in chemical and biological sensors; labels in the imaging analysis of tissues, cells, and cell surfaces utilizing near-infrared fluorescence microscopy; acceptor molecules for use in fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) applications; and as fluorophores in metal enhanced fluorescence (MEF) applications.
