Research Interests and Summary

My research group has been actively involved in a variety of research projects. These are chiefly related to immunology, virology, microbiology, molecular and cellular biology as well as vaccinology, epidemiology and preventive medicine. We have strong interests and willpower to integrate these subjects to make a difference. Specifically, we have been studying host cell and immune responses to various infections or immunizations, including dengue virus, West Nile virus, vaccinia virus (the smallpox vaccine), influenza vaccine, and malaria parasites, regarding the functions and differentiation of different types of immune cells, such as monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells and B and T lymphocytes, in humans and animal models. As such, the research that we are developing at Morgan will be multidisciplinary which cuts across basic, translational and epidemiological studies. They can be summarized as following:

  1. Molecular and cellular aspects of immune cell functions and differentiation;
  2. Innate and adaptive immune responses to infections and vaccinations in humans and animal models;
  3. Viral immunity and pathogenesis; virus-host interactions;
  4. Rational design and evaluation of novel vaccine regimens and strategies;
  5. Immunological factors involved in individual variability and ethnic health disparities regarding host susceptibility and responses to infections and immunizations.
