Public Health Alumni Chapter (PHAC)

Dr. Ludmilla Wikkeling-ScottDear Alumni,

I bring you greetings on behalf of the Morgan State University Public Health Alumni Chapter (PHAC). PHAC exists to build and strengthen personal and professional relationships among public health alumni and students of the Public Health Program, and to promote mutual help and communication leading to the improvement in professional work among public health alumni in concert with the mission of the Public Health Program.

PHAC provides many opportunities to stay connected to classmates, professors, and staff on campus, and gives alumni an opportunity to support their alma mater. I joined the PHAC Board of Directors because I wanted to give something back. Attending graduate school at an HBCU definitely helped me to build character in ways I would not have at a PWI. I grew a desire for leadership in order to mentor upcoming public health leaders to step to the forefront and lead the nation in its effort to strengthen the U.S. healthcare system. When I think about the friends I made, the credibility I receive as a professional, and the pride I feel in my being among the public health professionals who came from the small group of HBCUs with a Public Health Program, I feel it is my professional responsibility to support the Public Health Program now. As a fellow alum, I am asking you to reflect on the value you've gotten from your degree and the important role alumni play in strengthening their Alma Mater, and lend your much needed support.

This is a critical time for the Public Health Program. Now more than ever, your support is needed for the Public Health Program to increase the number of graduates, improve its enrollment, and better fill the need for African American public health professionals.

I understand that the current economy does not leave much room for donations, however, your contribution, more than a monetary offer, should be seen as your professional responsibility. If you are already contributing-thank you, thank you! If not, please do not turn your head, but seriously consider your role, our role, and the Public Health Program's role and significance in the Greater Baltimore Area and the nation. There are many other ways to give back to Public Health Program and to stay connected with the Student and Alumni community, from wherever you are. I encourage you to become involved with our alma mater in a way that is most convenient to you. If you are interested in helping, please consider one of the following:

  • Help us host our annual event
  • Assist with student recruitment
  • Assist with job placement
  • Become a preceptor
  • Help fund future scholarships for those students who need it most, and, if you have the time
  • Attend one of the Public Health Program's activities and events.

I hope that you will take advantage of future activities within the Public Health Program and I hope you'll help the Public Health Program work towards increasing the number of African American public health professionals and address health disparities in our communities. I look forward to working with all of you!
