Why the Nutritional Sciences Program at Morgan?



The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at Morgan is in its second ten-year cycle as a fully accredited program.   We provide a well-rounded academic experience that meets and exceeds many requirements established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.   Students rave about the one-on-one interaction within classes, and describe their experience within the Program as being part of a big family.  Beyond the classroom, the Program is enriched by experiential learning, extracurricular and service-learning activities.   Experiential learning activities are aligned with selected courses which expose students to real-life problem-solving and critical thinking situations in hospitals, extended care facilities,   community food and nutrition feeding programs and in the food service systems industry.  We have a unique line-up of extracurricular and service learning activities offered through our four student organizations: the Pre-Professional Club;  EatRight Club;  Harvest-for-Haiti Club and the Community Organic Vegetable Garden (COVG) Club.  

Graduates of the program are employed in various settings within the field of dietetics where they translate the science of food and nutrition to achieve and maintain optimal human health.    Many have pursued graduate studies and are serving in leadership positions in traditional and non-traditional settings.  Several are entrepreneurs providing services for chronic diet-related diseases and conditions; eating disorders; and in maternal and child nutrition.  Morgan State University Dietetics Program continues to grow and is staffed by experienced and dedicated faculty who believe that students’ success in the classroom should translate to success in life.
