AEP-Your Success Is Our Goal!

image of hands in a bookACADEMIC STANDING is the term used to describe the grade point average status. Acceptable academic standing is a 2.0 or better. Students falling below this are not eligible to register for on-campus housing the following Fall semester. In addition, students falling below this GPA requirement are placed on academic probation through the Office of Retention. Students who have consistent semesters falling below this GPA are asked to leave the university.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS is the term used to refer to the number of credits a student has earned to transition to graduation. Normal academic progress means that a student passes at least 24 credits from one fall semester to the next and advances to the next class level (based on number of courses, not credit hours):

  • Freshman - fewer than 8 courses completed
  • Sophomore - at least 8, but fewer than 18 courses completed
  • Junior - at least 18 but fewer than 29 courses completed
  • Senior - at least 29 or more courses completed

It is ORL’s belief that student success is based on the services and supports provided by faculty and staff in the academic environment. Therefore, we ensure that we contribute positively to this success by providing students programming that assists in their positive development overall. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT is the process a student goes through to gain mastery of a particular aspect of their identity. Positive student development is attained based on the services, supports and opportunities provided by those in the student’s immediate environment. The AEP strives to model and provide such services, supports and opportunities through strong educational programming.
