Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor

LockDown Browser & Monitor (webcam): Lockdown Browser (LDB) is a special browser you can require students to use to take their Bb exams. It prevents students from opening new browser windows, copying, pasting, printing, and running software applications that allow sharing. Monitor is an add-on to LDB that requires students to use a webcam during the test. Monitor records students as they take the test, and flags suspicious behavior. Instructors can access the video recordings after students have completed the test. LDB and Monitor may be either together or separately. LDB is recommended for proctored exams taken in a computer lab. Monitor is recommended for exams students take on their own computers. The Lockdown Browser and Monitor will work only with exams you create on Morgan's Blackboard system -- it will not work with 3rd party exams such as WebAssign, McGraw Hill etc. Please contact your Morgan State computer lab administrator to obtain information about 3rd party versions of Lockdown.

Respondus Monitor is a companion application for LockDown Browser. Once enabled, you can access the Respondus Monitor settings through the LockDown Browser Dashboard, directly from Blackboard.

NOTE: OIT Computer Labs DO NOT have web cameras for use with Respondus Monitor. Students will need to use their own computers with cameras for Monitor.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE -- READ THIS:  Respondus will "add a password" to your Test Options.  DO NOT REMOVE this password.  DO NOT DISTRIBUTE password to students. The purpose of the password is to establish a relationship between Respondus Lockdown Browser and the test.  If you remove the password you will cause an error, and students will not be able to take the test.  If you have removed the password, fix the problem by going to the Control Panel >Course Tools> Respondus Lockdown Browser > click the Fix IT button for the test with the error.
