"Growing the Future, Leading the World!"

Welcome to Morgan State University, an institution rich in academic excellence, achievement and leadership, and one of the great centers of higher learning in the United States. One of only four public, Carnegie-classified Doctoral Research Institutions in the State of Maryland, Morgan offers a dedicated, world-class faculty; an ethnically, culturally and socioeconomically diverse student body and nearly 90 academic programs leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, one of the nation's major cultural centers, Morgan boasts modern campus facilities and a vibrant student life.
Academic excellence and alumni achievement are at the center of the Morgan experience. Putting our students on the path to success and educating them for leadership on the world stage are at the core of our mission. At Morgan, we teach our students how to compete in the 21st century, and how to win!
Today, Morgan is:
- 1st among traditional campuses in Maryland in the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to African Americans
- 1st among all campuses in Maryland and among the top 10 campuses nationwide in the number of doctorates awarded to African Americans
- 1st in Maryland in the number of science and engineering bachelor's degrees awarded to African Americans
- 1st among HBCUs nationwide in the number of Fulbright Scholars graduated, and 1st among HBCUs nationwide in Fulbright Scholars on faculty.
Morgan's impact on the State of Maryland, the region and the nation, is undeniable. Our alumni are some of the top innovators, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists and artists in the nation. Our students are challenged in our classrooms to think deeply and critically about the issues of the past and present and to imagine a future where they are at the epicenter of innovation and leadership. Our students are obtaining a world class education and they are taught to apply what they've learned in the classroom to real-life communities, from Maryland to New Jersey and from Virginia to Haiti and beyond.
Over the last several years, with additional investment in Morgan by the State of Maryland, we have been able to provide our students with a number of outstanding educational facilities and, more are on the way. In April, we broke ground for the University's new Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies (CBEIS) building, which is now springing to life beside our already established, state-of-the-art School of Engineering buildings. These facilities, and many others, are helping us produce the next wave of world-class innovators.
As I assume the presidency of this proud institution, I look forward to the challenge and excitement of leading Morgan to yet a higher level of ingenuity, productivity and excellence.
