Purpose of the Summit
The purpose of the Summit is to provide opportunities for representatives
of all groups concerned about the persistence of African American students
in higher education to come together to:
- address the problem of retention of African American students in colleges
and universities,
- celebrate successful retention programs in higher education, and
- propose action plans to increase the persistence of African American
students in higher education.
Who Should Attend the Summit
The Summit will address concerns of the following groups:
- educators at all levels, including college and university presidents,
school superintendents, professors, teachers, administrators, and staff,
- college students,
- legislators involved in educational policymaking,
- business, industry, and government agency leaders interested in increasing the pool of African American college graduates, and
- parents of students at all levels.
Time and Location of the Summit
The Summit will be held from March 12-14, 2009 at the Clarion Resort
Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland.
