Introduction: The School of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (SCMNS) is currently recruiting for a Chairperson within the Physics Department. This position is a Full-time twelve (12) month academic appointment. Interested candidates should have a strong desire to advance the mission of one of the largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Serving as the Academic and Administrative Officer for the Physics & Engineering Physics department; providing the strategic vision, intellectual and academic leadership for the department; directing, hiring, promoting and monitoring the retention of faculty and staff; guiding the development and oversight of undergraduate and graduate curricula and Degree Programs, including compliance with accreditation standards; using strategic methods to advance the department to increase enrollment; promoting and supporting scholarly pursuits of faculty and students to increase external funding; actively recruiting students and seeking ways to promote student success through advisement and placement.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have achieved a Doctoral Degree in Physics or a related field from an accredited University with experience as an instructor of record.

Requirements: Must have experience fostering basic and Applied Research, interdisciplinary and cross institutional collaborations, entrepreneurship and the development of new and innovative programs; significant scholarly accomplishments, administrative experiences and academic qualifications to be appointed as a tenured faculty member in physics at an Associate or Full Professor level; success in fundraising and securing external support from a variety of funding sources; ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills congruent with working with other units on campus; ability to relate well with others within a multiethnic and multicultural diverse student population.
