Department: Teacher Education & Professional Development

Introduction: The Department of Teacher Education & Professional Development is recruiting for a Chairperson. Interested candidates should have a strong desire in advancing the mission of one of the Nation's largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Duties: Responding requests from the Dean; serving as mid-level leadership between Faculty and Senior Administration; providing leadership in curriculum and pedagogy; advising students; certifying students for graduation; writing reports requested by the Dean, Provost, Maryland State Department of Education and Maryland Higher Education Commission; mentoring Faculty; assisting in the recruitment of Faculty and Staff; facilitating departmental meetings; encouraging participation of members, with the focus on advancing teaching and scholarly research needs and professional development of Faculty, Staff, Student Teachers and Students; conducting program development; supervising coordinators and performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will have achieved a Doctoral Degree from an accredited University in Education or a related field and at least five (5) years of work experience.

Requirements: Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills; proven experience and accomplishments in teaching and research; ability to relate well to others within a multiethnic, multicultural diverse student population.
