Department: Telecommunication Services

Introduction: Introduction: The Department of Telecommunication Services is currently recruiting for a Telephone Operator. Interested candidates should have a strong desire to  support the mission of one of the Nation's largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Duties: Receiving inter-office calls; operating the switchboard console; forwarding calls to requested professionals; answering inquiries according to departmental policies and procedures; maintaining and updating telephone information records; providing information regarding telephone numbers, scheduled events, hours of operation, delivery directions, address information, academic calendars, openings and closings and performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED with one (1) year of experience in the operation of telephone system equipment.

Requirements: Must have general knowledge of telecommunications equipment and services; skill in the use of keyboards and basic communication software; listening techniques for interpreting caller requests; ability to communicate clearly and effectively; interpersonal skills to interact with callers in a pleasant and courteous manner and maintain poise under pressure.
