Department: Public Relations & Communications

Introduction: The Department of Public Relations and Communications is currently recruiting for a Communications Assistant. Interested candidates should have a strong desire to support the mission of one of the Nation's largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Duties: Providing general assistance and office support; researching and providing reccomendations on internet advertising opportunities for enhancing the public image of the University; providing website and internet support; assisting with planning, coordinating and executing special events for the University; writing letters and pitching news stories to media sources; providing research, writing, general editorial and dissemination support for University Press Releases; assisting with providing internal and external public relations support for various departments and schools of the University as needed and performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of office experience providing Secretarial or Administrative support.

Preferred Qualifications: An Associate Degree, along with proficiency in web support and social media skills.

Requirements:. Must have the ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple and continuing assignments; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to monitor budget expenditures and inventory of equipment and assets; ability to work evenings and weekends.
