Introduction: The Office of Finance and Management is recruiting for an Associate Vice President & Deputy CFO. Interested candidates should have a strong desire to support the mission of one of the Nation's largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).
Duties: Assisting in the oversight of a large and diverse service operation that supports the academic mission of the University; serving as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the University; advising the Vice President (VP) and other senior-level administrators, including the President on all campus-wide financial and resource matters, fiscal planning and policy, budget, space and facilities management and other key administrative functions; serving as a key member
of the Vice President's Management Team; assisting the Division's Budget and Finance, Human Resource Management, Planning and Facilities Management, Treasury Operations and Axillary Enterprises; working closely with the University's Public Safety, Information Technology, Research Grants and Contracts, Enrollment Management and the MSU Foundation; collaborating with faculty and staff through the shared governance structure of the University Council; maintaining the responsibility of the ongoing operation and management of University support services including real estate, budget planning and administration, financial services and investments, parking and transportation services emergency preparedness, facilities management, capital planning and construction; procurement, mail services, print shop, environment health and safety, risk management; quality improvement of payroll benefit services, human resources and labor relations, workers compensation and sustainability; complying with University and external fiduciary requirements to sustain public trust; filling in for the VP during periods of time when
the VP is working on other major initiatives and performing other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: A Graduate Degree or Professional Certification in Business or a related field from an accredited university with at least ten (10) years of directly related experience in a progressively responsible senior level financial and administrative management position.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within a State Government Agency or a collective bargaining environment is preferred.
Requirements: Demonstrated innovative leadership and knowledge of the full range of issues addressed by an administration, finance, capital and human resource executive in a public higher education setting; knowledge of strategic planning models; demonstrated successful management of a large, highly, complex organization, including responsibility for multiple functions related to finance and Management; experience managing organizational change; strong reputation for integrity and ethical business standards and practices; commitment to the values of shared governance and collegiality; proven track record in working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and the external community, with a leadership style that encourages teamwork;
creating a positive and supportive work environment; commitment to the values of shared governance and collegiality; evidence of understanding complex information systems and applications to administrative functions; capacity and commitment to create a positive and supportive work environment; excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, written and oral communication skills; ability to recruit and retain exceptionally talented staff, with a strong sensitivity to the need for diversity in the workforce; possess entrepreneurial, innovative and creative problem solving skills; demonstrated ability to lead and succeed in managing change; service oriented; demonstrated commitment to diversity especially as it relates to serving the needs of a highly diverse student body and ensuring student success is a key focus.
