M’baré N’gom (Ph.D., Paris-Sorbonne, Paris IV, France) is a Senior Fulbright scholar (Peru, 2002) and Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, and French and Francophone Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the chairperson of the Department of World Languages and graduate program in International Studies and director of both the African Studies program and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies program. In Spring 2007, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Calgary in Canada.

A former Summer NEH fellow (Mexico) and a Fulbright-Hays program director (Peru, 2004), his essays have appeared in Hispania, Canadian Journal of Hispanic Studies, Diáspora, Francofonía, Australian Journal of French Studies, Caribe, Afro-Hispanic Review, Cruz Ansata, Journal of Afro-Latin American Studies and Literatures, Caminería Hispánica y Voces and Quimera, as well as in book chapters and encyclopedia entries. He is the author of Diálogos con Guinea: panorama de la literatura guineoecuatoriana de expresión castellana a través de sus protagonistas (Madrid 1996), and co-author of Literatura de Guinea Ecuatorial (Antología) (Madrid 2000), and editor of  La reconstrucción de la memoria y de la identidad nacional en la literatura hispano-negroafricana(Alcalá de Henares 2004), and the forthcoming Escribir la identidad: creación cultural y negritud en el Perú (Lima, Peru 2008). He served as the National Chair of theAssociation of African Studies Programs (2006-2007).

Dr. N’gom is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Sandye J. Mc Intyre II, International Award,  Dr. Iva G. Jones Medallion Mantle (2005-2006), La Cantuta de Plata (Universidad Nacional de Educación, La Cantuta, Peru, Huésped Ilustre de la Municipalidad provincial de Cañete” Award[Distinguished Guest of the Provincial Municipality of Cañete, Peru (2004), Visitante Ilustre de Nuestro Histórico y Centenario Distrito de San Luis de Cañete” Award[Distinguished Visitor of the Historical and Centennial City of San Luis de Cañete, Peru (2004), Visitante Ilustre de la Ciudad de Nasca Award [Distinguished Visitor of the City of Nasca], Peru (2002), Outstanding Educator of the Year (2001-2002 and 2004-2005), Marquette University’s Ralph Metcalfe Visiting Chair (Spring 2001), andthe Dean of the College of Liberal Arts’ Medal for Excellence in Scholarship (1999-2000).

Dr. N´gom has traveled to the following countries: Brazil,Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France (and French overseas territory of Martinique), Guinea, Guatemala, Mexico, Morocco, Belgium, Equatorial Guinea, The Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Senegal, Spain, United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
